Dragon’s Grail Arc 1: Escape from Ice Mountain!

The start of an epic adventure of myths, magic, and legends being born! Featuring a fantasy road trip, a slow-burn MMF love triad, sassy dragons, and MAGIC DOGS!!!!

Astra is a 45 year old librarian for the ancient and legendary monastery, Qordashi of the Four Winds, which sprawls down the side of Ice Mountain. Her life is constrained by her religious orders, the monastery borders, and the dangerous secret of her death-aligned magical powers. 

The tranquil solitude of Astra's monastic life is shattered in an instant when a brutal assault is launched against the only home she has ever known. As she desperately tries to escape the destruction, she finds herself relying on an uneasy alliance: a charismatic thief, a suspicious warrior, an injured dragon, and two demonic dogs. 

The lies of their pasts come to break apart Astra’s safe little world and reveal her controversial magic for all to see. Even if they make it out of Ice Mountain alive, Astra knows nothing will ever be the same.

This is the start of an epic serial fantasy telling the story of Astra’s journey across the continent that lives in the shadow of Firestate, the massive volcanic island home of the fire dragons, in her quest to keep the Dragon’s Grail out of the hands of evil…and maybe discover the truth of her own origins.

Welcome, readers! I’m sure you’re busy asking yourselves:

What, exactly, is this serial about?

It’s honestly pretty much what it says on the tin: an epic fantasy adventure with dragons, a bunch of magic, a hell of a lot of world-building, and a slow-burn MMF love triad sub-plot. I don’t categorize this as a “fantasy romance” since the story is much more aligned with long-running fantasy stories than a traditional romance arc, but the romance aspect is important to me as it will drive a lot of the choices the characters make (for good and for ill!). And yes, eventually there is a HEA for the throuple! (Eventually.)

At this point I have five arcs drafted out, each about 40k words long give-or-take. That puts its current status at around 150k words long, but that only gets the characters a little ways into the journey! I expect Dragon’s Grail as a whole will be 300k-500k words in the end.

Each arc will wrap up the focus of that individual story, but there is a much bigger story going on. So, there will be cliffhangers here and there!

My goal is to write a fun fantasy adventure story filled with witty banter, interesting characters, big mysteries, bigger magic, and a dash of romance. Just the kind of story that sustained me throughout the worst days of my life and reminded me of how much fun it is to be alive.

When?

This first arc is going to be updated twice a week on Tuesday and Friday! It will be free to read for everybody, no paywall! It was released to paid subscribers of my Ream platform, but I’m shifting off of Ream so I decided to post the freemium version here.

The second arc, The Lost City, will start posting here in October!
